Hello Eagle Nation!
As we move forward into the Spring Semester of the year, I wanted to reach out and explain what all the levels of clearances are needed in athletics to better simplify what is needed to get things moving.
First, there is the CIF (California Interscholastic Federation, state athletic governing organization) calendar of sports. This year, due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, the calendar and seasons were condensed into two seasons; season 1 and season 2. These seasons have their start and end dates already determined and are available for review at www.cifstate.org.
CIF Season 1 Sports (January – April):
Cross Country, Football, Girls Volleyball, and Water Polo
CIF Season 2 Sports (March – June):
Baseball, Basketball, Competitive Sport Cheer, Golf, Soccer, Softball, Swimming & Diving, Tennis, Track & Field, Boys Volleyball, and Wrestling
The CIF and CDHS have also developed a color-tier model to show what sports are allowed within the seasons per the county’s color-tier designation at the moment. Here is the color-tier breakdown of what is allowed within our county.
With that all said, both criteria are used to determine what is allowed during a specific time of the year. Other criteria involved are the current regulations of the state’s stay-at-home orders (if our area is under stay-at-home orders, no athletics will be conducted), our county regulations (county can be more restrictive than the state), and the district regulations (SUHSD can be more restrictive than the county and the state’s regulations). As it stands right now (1/28/2021), we are on a holding pattern for all sports as our district has restricted any extra-curricular activities until further notice/review. If you have any questions, please feel free to give me a call (831)796-7800 ext. 2327 or email me at firstname.lastname@example.org and I can answer them to the best of my ability.
Remember Eagle Nation, SoaRR out there by being Safe, Respectful, and Responsible in hopes that we can get back into athletics! It takes a community to unite and do this so do your part in wearing your masks, restrict yourselves and loved ones from unnecessary travel and gatherings and know you COVID status and get tested (free testing at www.LHI.care)! Quick updates will be posted on the Athletics Twitter account so make sure you follow on Twitter @AthleticsEAHS
